5 days Tanzania Mountain Climbing Safari:
Mount Meru in Arusha National Park
Mount Meru is the second highest mountain in Tanzania at 4,5685m.and the fifth highest in Africa.
It is best to allow three days for climbing Meru since it involves a 3,500m altitude trek. There are
two huts available to climbers on the mountain and firewood is supplied. The best time to climb
Meru is between October and February. The mountain is usually climbed from Olkokola on the
western side of the crater and you need a park ranger as an escort due to the threat of buffalo.
Safari program Tanzania Mountain Climbing Safari :
Day 1: Nairobi (or Kilimanjaro airport)- Arusha
Board Riverside shuttle bus or Davanu shuttle bus from Nairobi at 0800 hrs and proceed to
Arusha arriving at lunch time. Walking time is 4 - 5 hours.
Dinner and overnight at a hotel Arusha.
Day 2: Arusha National Park: walking from the gate to to Miriakamba Hut
After breakfast we drive from your hotel to the park gate, doing a game drive en route. From the gate we walk with a Park
Ranger through a game filled parkland up to Miriakamba Hut at 8,100 ft. Walking time is 3 - 4 hours.
Meals and overnight at
Miriakamba Hut.
Day 3: walking Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut.
After breakfast we leave Miriakamba for walking to the Saddle hut at 11,480 ft passing through the forest. Walking time is 4 - 6 hours.
Meals and overnight at
Saddle Hut.
Day 4: walking Saddle Hut to Crater back to Arusha
Wake up at midnight, and after a snack, proceed to the summit through the viewpoint of
crater rim. Walking time is 5 - 7 hours. Then we descend to the gate where the waiting car will take you back to your hotel in
Arusha.
Day 5: End of this safari or proceed ...
Proceed with Kilimanjaro Climb or Tanzania safari. Else we will take you back to Nairobi or the Kilimanjaro Airport.
